Gorgeous Poseidon is one of six “Kansas City Chicks” who live in the “Frat House” — the spacious shelter and yard located at the southern end of our big pond. He was one of the 42 chickens rescued from a crystal meth facility in Kansas City, Missouri in February 2010. The meth lab was using the chickens to cover up the smell of illegal activity. When the Kansas City dog shelter reached out to farm animal sanctuaries for help, intrepid volunteers Vanessa and JR VanNoy flew out to Kansas City and drove the birds back to CAS in a Budget rental van. There use to be more boys in the fraternity, but one by one, these gentle birds have been adopted.
