Charlotte and Maggie were rescued from a high-kill animal shelter in Maryland in 2008. The shelter was only equipped to handle cats and dogs, so these two porcine ladies spent a year locked in a stall because that was the only space that the shelter could provide. Catskill Animal Sanctuary rescued them shortly before the shelter was going to end their lives.
We believe that Charlotte and Maggie were abandoned by a family who wanted pet pigs, before researching just how much work pigs are. Pigs are exceptionally smart, willful, strong, food-obsessed, and need lots of outdoor space in which to root. If you’re considering adopting a potbellied pig, do your homework first!
