In September 2015, one of Catskill Animal Sanctuary’s Animal Care interns was leaving the property for the night when neighbors stopped her at the top of the driveway because they had seen a goat roaming next to The Homestead, our bed & breakfast. The neighbors thought that we had lost one of our rescued animals; it turned out that the goat was an abandoned animal.

With the help of our neighbors, we managed to catch Hermione and settle her into a barn stall for the night. She was emaciated, frail, and desperately sick. But within a week, optimum food, a warm, dry bed, and medical care started paying off: we were hopeful that Hermione just might make it, after all.

You wouldn’t recognize Hermione today! She is not only love on four legs; she has also put on quite the belly nibbling at willow tree branches as she follows along behind visitors touring the sanctuary.

Translation of Hermione's bleats: "IT'S FRIDAY! LET'S PARTY!"

Hermione is content to receive ❤ and head scratches from a Homestead guest on a chilly day. Meanwhile, best friend Lucia hangs back off-camera.

A few months ago, we welcomed back Tigger (aopted from CAS in 2006), when his family was no longer able to care for him. Hermione (just A LITTLE OBSESSED WITH HIM) gives that decision two hooves up! ❤️
