At no other time of year than December can you get away with making cookies in such abundance and with such wild abandon. Seriously, 12 days of vegan holiday cookies? This is your free pass to indulge–guilt-free, so get ready to jump in!
You may notice that the joy comes not only from eating the cookies, but from the process itself. In the weeks that lead up to the holidays, we think about our favorite treats, the ones we wait for all year–and perhaps consider how to work a new recipe or two into the mix. Lists are made–who are we baking for, what ingredients do we need, how will we package them up? Then we schedule the baking–maybe you’re a kitchen commando and you do it all in one day, or you might enjoy the leisurely pace of baking, giving, and eating over the course of several weeks. Sweet scents waft out of the kitchen and around your home filling every room with holiday magic. The entire holiday baking process is something so many of us look forward to all year long; those who don’t, without a doubt, look forward to enjoying the end result.
Being vegan doesn’t mean giving up on that treasured ritual. Although many traditional recipes call for ingredients that are not compassionate, like butter, milk, eggs, cream cheese, and chocolate, there are many options available today that will allow you to recreate the classics with only a few simple substitutions.
And if you can have all of the taste and none of the cruelty by swapping a few ingredients, why wouldn’t you? So grab a cup of tea and browse through this year’s delightful delve into the 12 Days of Vegan Holiday Cookies and start making your lists. There’s something for everyone!
