PART-TIME, SEASONAL RETAIL COORDINATOR
Catskill Animal Sanctuary seeks a part-time, weekend cashier to staff our Welcome Hut. Hours are Saturdays & Sundays, April 1st – November 30th, 10:30 am – 5:30 pm. End time may vary in inclement weather. This is an on-site role that includes ensuring an excellent “first-exposure” experience to customers, selling tour tickets & merchandise, encouraging people to become Sanctuary members or animal sponsors, maintaining merchandise displays and an accurate inventory count, and daily cash control. The ideal candidate is an outgoing “people person” with excellent customer service skills, familiarity with our programs, and a commitment to our mission. The position reports to the Tours Manager and works closely with the Retail & Communications Coordinator.
Minimum requirements include:
- Excellent customer service and oral communication skills
- Sales or cashier experience
- Experience managing inventory
- Punctual with reliable transportation
- Accurate handling of cash transactions
- Able to remain calm and pleasant while assisting multiple customers at once
- Restocking merchandise, cleaning floors and emptying garbage at end of shift
- Excellent communication skills
- Regular weekend availability
As part of the current growth and expansion at the Sanctuary, inventory management experience is vital to this Retail position. The goal is to expand the shop into a more reliable income stream and business for the animal residents. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to adequately communicate feedback from customers in order to provide suggestions for new items and merchandise for the current and future seasons.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Selling tickets and merchandise through our POS system
- Fulfilling online orders
- Summarizes weekend notes, suggestions, and any issues in a weekly e-mail submitted by 10 AM Monday morning
- Research potential products for the Welcome Hut
- Counts inventory during regular weekend hours to restock Hut and provides re-order information to Retail & Communications Coordinator
- Receives new shipments of inventory by checking for order completeness and puts stock away accordingly
- Corrects and enters new and/or existing inventory in our POS system
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to think creatively and work quickly
- Excellent people skills, positive outlook, and ability to manage difficult customer situations with ease
- Vegan candidates are strongly encouraged to apply, but the role can be fulfilled by someone who is vegetarian and not averse to becoming vegan. Being vegan-literate and willing to understand anti-speciesist language is required
