Gilbert is a proud goose, deeply devoted to his flock. He isn’t very interested in cuddles or human attention, but that’s because he’s always busy guarding the ones he loves. Gilbert keeps a constant watch over Willa and Rapunzel, especially his beloved Willa, patrolling their field with an intimidating strut and a powerful squawk. To visitors he may seem fierce, but those who know him understand that his love and loyalty runs deep. Gilbert is a dedicated protector, looking for sponsors who appreciate a strong guardian and want to help keep his family safe and secure at CAS!
Gilbert was rescued in November 2016 from a massive hoarding and neglect case in Westport, Massachusetts, where more than 1,400 animals were found living in appalling conditions. Catskill Animal Sanctuary welcomed 111 survivors, including Gilbert, who finally found the safety and stability his protective heart had always been searching for. Though his birthday and age remain unknown, our best estimate is that he’s somewhere around 10 years old, quite remarkable for a goose like him!
