Important Announcement:

With COVID spiking in our community, we have made the very difficult decision to temporarily close The Homestead guesthouse; after our “hibernation” we’ll open up for springtime reservations! Be the first to know when we reopen by signing up for our email newsletter at

Atop the 150-acre Catskill Animal Sanctuary property sits The Homestead; manager Michelle and staff await your arrival.

Built in 1813, The Homestead has been meticulously and conscientiously restored with eco-friendly materials, many of them salvaged from old barns, while still featuring the original wide-plank wood floors, exposed brick walls, elegant fireplaces and rocking chair porch. There are three guest rooms and a suite, each named after a beloved animal.

As a guest of The Homestead, you’ll enjoy full access to the house as well as a guest pass to tour the Sanctuary and spend time with our rescued animals. Come unwind — it’s time to exhale!

*Please note, our Sanctuary grounds are still closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic*

Beautifully appointed bedrooms (1 king, 2 queens, 1 full) and 2 1/2 baths.

Cook with the family in the enormous open kitchen.

Sit together around the beautiful farm table (seats 12) in the dining room.

Read, watch television, or just lounge in the enormous living room with two separate seating areas. TV is included, along with WiFi and air-conditioning.

Grill or chill on the patio and enjoy the large, landscaped yard.

We recently updated our booking  and onsite policies to keep everyone safe and minimize risk to our guests and staff. Please read these updated policies before booking!

Revised Booking Policy

At this time we are only booking the Homestead as a whole-house rental for $500/night. No individual rooms are available at this time. We are also requiring a 5-night minimum (Wednesday Check-In and Monday Check-Out). For everyone’s safety we’re asking everyone who books The Homestead to fill out a brief questionnaire about any potential COVID-19 exposure. This is the only way to ensure the safety of our guests and staff. Thank you for understanding.

Sanctuary Visit Policy

As always, your visit includes access to the Sanctuary, but this must be done at specific times, and all guests must wear a mask and gloves. We know how hard it is to walk away from sweet, snuggly sheep, but for the safety of our staff, please only visit the Sanctuary during your allotted time. Guided tours are not currently available.

Dog Policy

Well-behaved dogs who are not aggressive towards people or animals, and who can be left in your room without excessive barking, are welcome at an additional fee of $20 per dog per night.

In fairness to our animal friends, dogs are not allowed beyond The Homestead grounds; Homestead guests must visit our rescued animals without them.

Cat Policy

We’re sorry, we love our feline friends, but we ask that you leave them at home. We love to see photos, though!

Our guest rooms and bath are located on the second floor and regretfully are not handicapped accessible.

Free WiFi is available throughout The Homestead.

Rates and Availability

Because we are re-opening on a limited basis, we ask that you please email for availability.

Food and Smoking Policies

In accordance with our mission, and out of respect to the animals who live here, The Homestead is 100% vegan and non-smoking. Please do not bring any non-vegan food on Sanctuary property. Thank you for your cooperation.

Check-in time on Wednesday is 3:00. Access keypad entry codes will be provided for you.

Check out time on Monday is 10:00 am

For everyone’s safety we’re asking anyone that would like to stay at The Homestead to answer a brief questionnaire about any potential COVID-19 exposure. To book a stay you must be able to answer “NO” to all of the following questions:
Have you had any COVID-19 symptoms in the past 14 days?
Have you tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
Have you come in close contact with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case in the past 14 days?
