PROGRAMMING MANAGER

The Programming Manager oversees all aspects of the Sanctuary’s educational programming, including planning, development, implementation, and management of both in-person and online programs. As a dynamic person well-versed in the plight of farmed animals and the impact of our food and lifestyle choices on other species, the environment, and human health, the Programming Manager will have outstanding teaching and presentation skills and be driven to strengthen the impact of our educational programs – in person and virtually. Reporting to the Deputy Director, this role is expected to be able to work independently, as well as part of a team, in particular in close collaboration with our Education Manager. This person is instrumental in working with the Animal Care department in order to be effective in maintaining animal well-being during programs while also ensuring deep, animal-focused experiences for visitors.

This person will manage the full-time Education Manager as well as a team of part-time seasonal humane educators, and the retail “Welcome Hut” Assistant.They will also have access to an Office Assistant for 15+ hours per week or as needed.

This is a full time, salaried position starting at $50K. The workweek during public tour season – (April through November) is Wednesday – Sunday. During the off-season, the work week can/may change to Monday – Friday with some weekend flexibility required.

Whether in person, or on video, the Programming Manager will be one of the faces, and voices representing the Sanctuary’s mission to lead with love as we educate visitors about our rescued farmed animals, the realities of animal farming, and their implications for all of us.

The Programming Manager will:

• Hire, train, schedule and supervise the Humane Education team, volunteers and interns

• Actively participate in weekend, weekday and group tours to maintain supervision and impact in program delivery

• Supervise the Welcome Hut retail employee.

• Create a positive customer service experience for public tour attendees, while ensuring CAS policies are maintained

• Lead private member tours and group tours for schools and other organizations

• Provide engaging yet impactful education through virtual Animals on Call program,

• Develop content and host/co-host our Virtual Sanctuary FB live videos

• Research and stay informed of evidence-based knowledge regarding farmed animals to maintain and update educational materials, rescue stories, training tools etc.

• Develop deeply engaging specialty tours for all ages and interests.

• Develop annual program plan and budget as well as policies and procedures to support and strengthen programs in collaboration with the Education Manager.

• Assist the Deputy Director in developing annual budget and plans; work with other departments on tour initiatives and implementation as needed

• Collaborate with Education Manager to develop presentations for schools and other organizations

• Work closely with Education Manager to foster relationships and networking with local schools, universities, businesses, and other community and educational groups to educate and maximize in-person and virtual education opportunities

• Communicate all tour updates to Deputy Director for changes in marketing and communications in a timely manner

• Collaborate with all other departments (Communications, Development, Outreach, Animal Care, etc) on identified projects

Strong Candidates Possess:

• Experience working around farmed animals and the ability to “read” animals and respond with sensitivity.

• Deep personal commitment to a vegan lifestyle

• Problem solving skills and ability to “think on your feet”

• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

• Knowledge of issues related to farmed animal rights and animal sanctuaries.

• Outstanding time management and organizational skills

• Skilled in interpersonal dynamics that shows flexibility and resourcefulness with a particular ability to invite dialogue and foster engagement as tools in building strong working relationships.

• Shows cultural competence by working effectively with people across cultures, generations and identities.

• Aptitude for cultivating collaborative relationships with staff, leadership teams and partner organizations that promotes a culture of excellence and maximizes individual and organizational performance.

Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge of farmed animals and animal rights

• Proficiency in the use of IT and computers for word processing, simple accounting, databases, spreadsheets, email, and presentations.

• Bachelor’s Degree

• 3-5 years experience in field of: education, animal rights, sanctuary management or related.

Proficiency in/regular use of the following programs (or similar):

• Neon CRM (or similar)

• Payment Processors (Stripe, PayPal, BluePay)

• POS Systems

• Booking, Reservation, Scheduling:

• Live conferencing & broadcasting platforms
