These recipes have been savored and devoured by thousands of visitors to the Sanctuary, and can now be enjoyed in kitchens all over the world. Interwoven with the recipes are stories about some of the Sanctuary's beloved animals, written by Founder and Director Kathy Stevens (who is also the author of two other Sanctuary volumes, Where The Blind Horse Sings and Animal Camp).
The cookbook contains 125 savory and sweet recipes, including Sanctuary favorites:
Blueberry Praline French Toast Casserole, Buffalo Cauliflower with Bleu Cheese Dressing, Moroccan Vegetable and Chickpea Tagine, Chipotle Sweet Potato Stew with Lime Cashew Crema, Coconut Cream Pie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles, and many more!
Order your copy of the cookbook through our online store or in person when you visit and 100% of proceeds go to the Sanctuary!
the compassionate cuisine culinary program
Our award-winning vegan culinary program is designed to show how easy and delicious it is to cook without using animal products. All our recipes are intended to be creative, budget-friendly, and approachable for all skill levels. Whether you're just curious, learning to cook, or an experienced pro in the kitchen, we have something to make mealtime and little easier and a lot tastier.
Take a Class With the Chefs
Offered on-site in The Homestead kitchen, our classes are intimate, with seating for ten. The style is relaxed and interactive, and generally demonstration-style. Classes are taught by either Chef Linda Soper-Kolton or Chef Sara Boan, both graduates of the chef’s training program at Natural Gourmet Institute in Manhattan. Learn more about the classes and see the schedule of upcoming topics.
While we wish everyone could come to a cooking class at the Sanctuary, we realize that’s not possible. So we post class recipes along with lots of additional recipes for you to try at home. Visit our recipe gallery or use our search tool on the right to find exactly what you're looking for.
