Product Review: Must-Try Vegan Ice Cream Flavors
Product Review: Must-Try Vegan Ice Cream Flavors
With summer quickly approaching, there’s no better time than the present to explore the joys of vegan ice cream! Once a niche product with only a handful of brands and flavors, the vegan ice cream scene is thriving with seemingly endless variations. If you’re looking for a new flavor or two–or three!–this summer, check out the following three ice creams I’ve been enjoying lately. With all the great taste and texture of dairy-based ice cream, yet none of the cruelty, you can’t go wrong with these fabulous flavors!
#1 – Ben & Jerry’s Dairy-Free: Caramel Coffee Fudge
When Ben & Jerry’s debuted their almond-based vegan ice cream a year ago, there was much rejoicing–and for good reason. Their ice cream is awesome! Loaded with fun add-ins like cookie pieces, caramel swirls, and candied cherries, among others, Ben & Jerry’s is a brand that’s all about pushing the flavor and texture envelope. Their Caramel Coffee Fudge ice cream is pleasantly bitter from the coffee, with swirls of super-sweet caramel that reminds me of the butterscotch ice cream topping of my childhood. The fudge chunks add a nice crunch, and the almond milk ice cream base is light and refreshing, much like my memories of frozen yogurt. Yum!
#2 – So Delicious Dairy Free: Chocolate Cookies ‘n Cream
Have you ever searched in vain for a cookies and cream ice cream with a chocolate, not vanilla, base? If so, this is the flavor for you! So Delicious‘ cashew-based vegan ice cream is smooth and creamy, with a rich chocolate flavor that just skirts the edges of bitterness. The soft and chewy cookie pieces add great texture and extra sweetness. And the pieces are well-distributed, so you won’t be fishing around in the pint seeking the cookie-laden bites. This one’s a keeper!
#3 – Coconut Bliss Chocolate Peanut Butter
First, a disclaimer: I absolutely, unapologetically adore the vegan ice cream from Coconut Bliss, especially their Salted Caramel and Chocolate flavor. So when I spied a flavor I hadn’t tried before, I snatched it up immediately! Chocolate and peanut butter are a classic dessert pairing, and the folks at Coconut Bliss really nailed it when it comes to this ice cream. The chocolate ice cream base is almost inconceivably smooth and creamy, much like traditional Italian gelato. The peanut butter swirled throughout is present but subtle, adding just enough nuttiness without overwhelming the chocolate. If you love all things chocolate and peanut butter, I highly recommend adding this ice cream to your list!
I hope this post has encouraged you to try some of the delicious vegan ice creams currently on the market. Have you tried any of these? Or do you have other beloved favorites? Please feel free to share your favorites in the comments below: I’d love to read all about what you’ve been enjoying lately!
