Abbie

A Saratoga breeder allowed his racing operation to grow unchecked—when he called us because he “didn’t want to feed ‘em” (referring to 12 horses whom he’d separated from the rest), horses were languishing in a muddy pasture without any food. Abby was in the worst shape of all. We’d been phoned by neighbors who urged us to “take the white horse,” whom they felt was on the verge of death. When Director Kathy Stevens went to remove the horses, there was no white horse. The breeder had hidden her in the barn. Abby was in horrifying shape; her hooves were particularly worrisome, and vets suggested she might need to be euthanized. But with lots of loving care from CAS staff, four years later, Abbie’s a thriving beauty!
