Camp Kindness

About Camp Kindness

Long before CAS opened its barn doors, Founder/Director Kathy Stevens had a vision of what she hoped CAS would become. Part of that vision included an education program for children where they could acquire a love of gardening, a passion for vegan cooking, and an understanding of the benefits that a vegan diet brings to animals, people and the planet. She also wanted to help children recognize the similarities between animals and people and the importance of treating all living beings with compassion.

This vision came to fruition in 2010 with the advent of Camp Kindness, a day camp for kids ages 8 – 13 that strives to foster compassion towards all living creatures as well as a respect for our planet.  Camp Kindness aims to inspire children to think critically through the scope of compassion.

CAS hopes that when children leave Camp Kindness they will take with them many happy memories, some new friends (human and animal), and an awareness of how they can make a positive difference in animals’ lives, their own lives, and in the environment.

2012 Camp Kindness

CAS is pleased to announce that Betsy Messenger and Melissa Bamford will be rejoining CAS to teach Camp this season!  These trained Humane Educators teach interactive lessons in gardening, crafts, vegan cooking and animal care and interaction…all while providing a creative, fun, non-judgmental environment in which to learn.

*Please note: The Camp Kindness program includes age appropriate discussions and activities covering factory farming and animal welfare issues.  It is therefore that we do not allow exceptions to the age requirements for each individual session.  CAS advocates for a vegan diet as the only diet that is kind and sustainable.  We encourage campers to think critically and to express themselves freely.  We are dedicated to fostering a supportive, compassionate and completely non-judgmental atmosphere for all.  For more information on camp programs, please contact our Director of Programs, Melissa Gates: melissa.gates@casanctuary.org or 845.336.8447 x.224.
