Rescue Alert: Twins For Twosday!

On February 22nd, the team at Catskill Animal Sanctuary welcomed home three sets of twins — and two mamas.
It was one of the busiest rescue days we’ve had at the Sanctuary in a long time.

First thing on Tuesday morning, we welcomed twin newborn calves, rescued from a dairy farm — and an hour after their arrival, our friends from Farm Sanctuary brought us two rescued goat families (two mamas, each with two babies apiece).

Meet The Calves:

These six day old babies had spent their early life in a tiny pen surrounded by filthy straw, waiting to be killed.
They had been separated from their mother, who was lying on the floor in chains. We’re heartbroken that she couldn’t be saved with them — we can never take her place but these babies will only know love and kindness for the rest of their lives. We also know that to honor her we must continue to educate and advocate – sharing the truth about the dairy industry. Because this was not an isolated case. This is the face of dairy.
These two calves (whose names will be announced next week!) will need extra care to make up for their mama’s absence — round-the-clock feeding and care, vet assessments, and so much more.

Make sure you don’t miss out when we announce their names! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok (and turn on notifications!) and subscribe to our e-newsletter, Herd Around The Barn.

Meet The Goats:

These two sets of twins and their mothers came from our friends at Farm Sanctuary, who helped rescue them from a local neglect case involving more than 40 goats and sheep. They gave them a safe place to land before they could come home to us.
We are so excited that this family of six will get to remain together for their whole lives. The babies (Isaac, Reese, Sully, and August) are so sweet and playful while the mamas (Autumn and Sadie) are more reserved. We’re giving them time to adjust and making sure they know they’re safe.
