You Can Influence Food Industry Giants!

You can and do help animals in a variety of ways, including volunteering, adopting, signing petitions, lobbying politicians, and boycotting companies that abuse animals.

Gestation crates are one of the cruelest tools used on factory farms – female pigs are imprisoned for years in metal cages that are barely bigger than their bodies, deprived of all natural behaviors and the outdoors, and literally used as breeding machines until their bodies are depleted and they’re sent to slaughter.

Thanks to organizations like Mercy for Animals, PETA, Compassion Over Killing, and HSUS, whose courageous undercover investigations expose shocking cruelty in the egg, dairy and meat industry, people are telling many of the biggest companies in the world that they won’t support such brutality. As a result, some of the most recognizable names in the business, including McDonald’s, Burger King, Sysco, Sodexo, Safeway, Costco, Oscar Meyer, Campbell’s Soup, and Kmart have committed to a multi-year 100% phase out of suppliers who use gestation crates. Animal advocates hope that other powerful behemoths including Walmart, Domino’s, and Target will follow. Notably, nine states across the country have banned this egregious confinement.

Learn more about what advocates hope is a definitive trend away from this 30 year-old industry standard at Mercy for Animals and HSUS. While CAS encourages you to adopt a vegan diet (which is THE most compassionate and kind diet) and is here to help you on this journey, tell us if you think this is a step in the right direction!

  1. My daughter and I just went vegan within the past few weeks. Her joining me actualy helped strengthen me. I’d been planting the seeds of a compassionate way of eating in her, and now they’ve blossomed.
