As fervent animals lovers, we believe strongly that all non-human animals have the right to live their lives free of suffering and exploitation at the hands of humans. Catskill Animal Sanctuary exists to provide them with love and safety until this right is realized.

The Sanctuary is a 150-acre refuge in New York’s Hudson Valley. Thanks to the generosity of people like you, since 2001 more than 5,000 farmed animals, representing 11 species, have been rescued from cruelty, neglect and abandonment. Currently, hundreds of non-human residents call The Sanctuary home.

We hold that looking an animal in the eye and seeing someone — not something — looking back is one of the most profound shifts we as human beings can make in our understanding of the world and our place in it.

The Sanctuary Crew

At the Sanctuary we’re blessed to know chatty chickens and affectionate cows, old blind horses and sassy ducks, soulful sheep and ‘lap’ turkeys — as well as most people know their dogs, kids, or best friends.

Come Fall in Love

You love animals… but has a turkey ever fallen asleep in your lap? Have you ever been kissed by a cow, or rubbed a pig’s belly and laughed as she grunted “thank you?” Come meet our family. You’ll discover that, in the ways that truly matter, we really are all the same.

Three Reasons to Become Vegan: Them, You, and Us

Our culture considers some animals more deserving of love and concern than others, but that doesn’t mean that “food animals” don’t feel fear and pain as much as dogs and cats. Furthermore, we now know that a meat- and dairy-centric diet is unhealthy for us — and disastrous for the planet. Each time someone aligns her lifestyle with the values of kindness, mercy, and compassion, the whole world benefits.
