Beyond Meat Burger Hacks
Summertime, burgers, and grills: A classic combo of all the right ingredients, especially when the burger's hearty, meaty, full of flavor...and made from plants!
Here are some simple hacks to "zhuzh" up plant-based meat for you and all the folks in your life, whether they're vegan or not.
Take one package of your favorite vegan meat, like Beyond Meat, and break it up in a bowl. Try any of the following combinations, or try all of them!
- Steakhouse-Style: Mix in: half a cup of moistened bread cubes/crumbs/stuffing, 2 tablespoons of ketchup, 2 tablespoons vegan Worcestershire, a few cloves of chopped garlic, 2 teaspoons onion powder, and some S&P. Top with crispy onion rings, lettuce, and tomato. Don't forget the sauce; mix up vegan mayo, relish, ketchup, sriracha. Bam!
- Taco Burger: Mix in a few tablespoons of jarred salsa, some sliced black olives, some canned green chile peppers (or use fresh jalapeno), and a good dose of shredded vegan cheese. Top with guacamole.
- Pesto Burger: Mix in a few tablespoons of store-bought vegan pesto (or use homemade!) and top with slices of vegan mozzarella or crumbled feta (Violife is awesome).
- Mediterranean Burger: Mix in a couple of teaspoons of harissa paste (add more if you're daring!), a little baba ganoush or hummus, some roughly mashed white beans, and maybe some kalamata olives. Top with more hummus or baba ganoush.
Bam. Best. Burgers. Ever! And if you don't want to tell the others till later, no one will believe these are made from plants. When you do tell them, be prepared to give them the recipe!
(One package of Beyond Meat makes about 6 burgers.)
